Making of the Lucid Perceptive Dream

  • February 5, 2016

Justin Johnson aka The Raw Writer and I met on our street in Long Beach, California. He recited some poetry for me one day and it was clear that he was very talented. Despite being humble and almost dismissive of his gift he was consistently writing. As a screenplay writer I admired this about him. He invited me to check out his poetry on AllPoetry.com. I enjoyed his work but was stopped in my tracks when I read The Lucid Perceptive Dream. I loved that it was a short story. I could see the images in my head that went along with it So I invited him to work together to create a short movie based on his poem. He agreed and the rest as theysay is history.

We planned the shoot for December. We shot on December 18th. The multi-talented Margarita Sanchez (instagram: @goldisis) played the role of his girlfriend. Then again after the holidays on January 8th of 2016. We got a big helping hand from Christopher Morgan of Molavanee Inc. (on twitter and instagram: @molavanee). He’s a talented cinematographer in his own right. He came in with some equipment that helped get shots we couldn’t have got without him. Standing in for Justin was collaborator DeAngelo “deeboyfresh” Stallworth (instagram: @deeboyfresh75). Producer Ana Jurado kept us on schedule and was humble enough to take on many production assistant tasks.  We also got helping hands from friends Jovan “Black” Hadnot (Instagram: @jovanharoldhadnot) and Wynton Johnson.

The 4:20 min. film was a community effort to bolster one of our local talents. We shot on a Sony a6000 mirrorless camera and edited on Final Cut Pro.  There are plans for at least three more projects to come. Keep posted here at rodveal.com.  See the movie here
